STANDARD SEVEN: Micropolitical Leadership
The school executive will build systems and relationships that utilize the staff’s diversity, encourage constructive ideological conflict in order to leverage staff expertise, power and influence to realize the school’s vision for success. The executive will also creatively employ an awareness of staff members’ professional needs, issues, and interests to build social cohesion and to facilitate distributed governance and shared decision-making.
7A: School Executive Micro-political Leadership
This year I have been fortunate enough to have a variety of experiences. These experiences include lunch duty, recess, and before/after school duties. During these times, I not only interacted with students outside of the classroom, but I had the opportunity to talk with different staff members and bond over the shared experiences. In addition to what I was assigned, I would often fill in when someone was out. This included standing in the front entrance to greet students. Leadership means being willing to do what you are asking of others. Through these opportunities, the staff viewed me as someone willing to get into the trenches and do the work with them.
